Wood-fired works

I have had a passionate obsession with wood-firing for the past 25 years now.  I fire my pots in a double firebox Bourry-box kiln which is fuelled with Australian hardwoods. I have just built an anagama kiln and fired it for 3 days .

The works are influenced by the environment in which I live.  The soft fluidity of the glaze melt is reminiscent of water movement.

Colours from glaze on glaze create landscapes from the mountains winding down the river to the sea.  Dry crusty crackled surfaces equate to the dryness of the land and riverbeds in drought.

Ash floating and depositing onto surfaces creates uniqueness to each piece, some soft and quiet, others demanding more attention.

Through the meditative process of throwing, altering and constructing I create individual handmade functional tableware for  people to use and enjoy every day.
